What exactly is AI? Far from being science fiction, it's already a silent partner in our modern world—from the navigation app that guides us around the Cape to the news and entertainment we consume.
This course will demystify AI. We will explore how you're already interacting with it and its similarities to past technological innovations that have changed the world. We will then pivot to the essential ethical choices this revolution presents, examining how AI is set to influence nearly every facet of our lives. We’ll look at its role in the future of work and its impact on privacy, democracy, and the fairness of our justice system. We’ll even consider how some uses of AI might reshape our understanding of ourselves and what it means to be ‘human'.
You will leave this class able to distinguish AI fact from fiction in the news, make more informed decisions about your own use of AI, and participate meaningfully in the vital conversations—with friends, family, and as a community—about the future we want to build.
Class is scheduled for these dates: 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1
