Have you always wanted to play acoustic guitar but didn’t know where to start? This six-session course is designed for absolute beginners—no prior experience required. Whether you’ve just picked up your first guitar or it’s been gathering dust in the corner, this friendly, hands-on class will guide you through the essentials and get you playing!

Lessons include learning about your guitar, how to hold the guitar, how to tune your guitar, basic chords, strumming, changing chords and learning fun simple songs.

In this course you will learn to strum with a pick. This is not a finger-picking style course.

Students must bring their own acoustic guitar and pick (preferably “thin” weight).  If you have an electronic tuner, please bring that as well. 

Classes are scheduled for these dates: 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19

About the instructor: Joel Sklar, a longtime guitarist and singer, has played in bluegrass and country bands in the Boston area for the past ten years.  Joel has a background as an adult educator for software and engineering companies. Currently he is half of the Cape Cod-based duo “The Lariats” who play country and bluegrass music at venues around the Outer Cape.
